Project overview

PTS Consulting is supporting the expansion of a major London data centre campus through the design of a new facility integrated into an existing live environment.

The project focuses on delivering robust ICT infrastructure across the new building, including Data Networks, structured cabling and integrated Physical Security systems.

A key requirement of the programme is ensuring seamless integration with existing operational systems while maintaining continuity across critical live services. The facility is being designed to support corporate IT, building management systems and security platforms through a highly resilient and secure infrastructure environment.

Client requirements

The client required a high performance and scalable infrastructure platform capable of supporting mission critical operations while aligning with strict operational and cybersecurity standards.

A major challenge was extending existing live systems into the new facility without disruption, while maintaining rigorous change control and security procedures.

The design also needed to support three fully segregated networks covering corporate, BMS and security systems, each operating independently to align with the client’s cybersecurity strategy. In parallel, all infrastructure and security systems needed to integrate seamlessly with existing campus platforms and control room operations.

Our approach

PTS delivered a coordinated multi-disciplinary design across IT Infrastructure, Data Networks and Physical Security, with a focus on resilience, scalability and integration.

For Data Networks, PTS designed three physically separate air-gapped networks supporting corporate, BMS and security environments. Each network was engineered for high performance, low latency and resilience, while integrating with existing management and monitoring platforms across the wider campus.

PTS also developed a scalable network architecture with resilient core and access layers to ensure continuity of service in the event of equipment failure. Wireless connectivity designs were developed to provide reliable, high-capacity coverage throughout the facility.

For IT Infrastructure, PTS designed a structured cabling solution based on high performance fibre and Category 6A copper cabling. Diverse routing and a “salt and pepper” approach were incorporated to maximise resilience and minimise single points of failure while maintaining logical separation between systems.

PTS also developed the Physical Security strategy, extending access control, video surveillance and intrusion detection systems into the new building. The design followed a layered security approach, ensuring comprehensive protection from perimeter to critical internal spaces while maintaining integration with existing control room operations.

Outcomes and benefits

The project establishes a future ready infrastructure platform aligned to the client’s global operational standards.
