Data Centre Case Study

PTS successfully conducts a STARS Assessment of two Data Center facilities, and a gap analysis of current and future facilities.

The Client:

The Client is a financial services organization based in Canada that provides services to over 21 million customers in more than 55 countries. They offer a broad range of services including personal and commercial banking, wealth management, corporate and investment banking.

The Challenge:

PTS Consulting was engaged by the Client to conduct STARS Assessments on two of its Toronto Data Centers: the IBM Barrie and Cogeco facilities. The STARS rating system scores Data Centers at one of four levels: Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4. The system features 20 levels of intermediate scoring within the main four levels of STARS.
The Client was seeking a Consultant to thoroughly evaluate the components of the chosen sites’ infrastructures, including Electrical, Mechanical, Telecommunication, and Operational Systems, as well as Physical and Logical Security. The assessment process included physical site inspections, interviews with key staff, and reviewing on-site documentation and procedures.

The Solution:

PTS’s STARS technicians reviewed all aspects of the location, from the exterior condition and accessibility through operational and security staff reviews, and into an in-depth physical audit of the infrastructure. Upon issuing the finalized STARS Assessments, The Client received a comprehensive report featuring the sites’ overall STARS rating, the individual system scores (Electrical, Mechanical, Telco, and Operations), and a detailed explanation of each component’s score. This report also identified Single Points of Failure.
